Push Factors:
Push Factors are conditions that drive people to leave their homes.
Some push factors are:
- Not enough land: People wanted more land (back in these times LAND=POWER)
- Religious persecution: Many people who practiced different religions were being killed in their own countries.
- Poverty: People were poor
- Revolutions: In some countries there were revolts and revolutions and people wanted to escape these often dangerous revolts.
Pull Factors:
Pull Factors are conditions that drive people to leave their homes
Some pull factors are:
- Promise of freedom: People were told that if they go to America they can practice any religion they want
- Chance for a new life: By immigrating to another country, people got a chance to restart their lives
- Job opportunities: Many jobs were around since the land in America was just starting out.
- Hope for wealth: There were many stories of immigrants going to America and becoming rich after starting their new lives, and this made many other people want to go to America hoping they would become rich as well.
- Land: There was a lot of land available since America didn't have many people settled on it yet.
